Feel Invincible.
Fashion is about self expression and feeling. When I’m feeling sad, or need to be confident, I’ll put on something that makes me feel invincible, like I can take on the world. Fashion has always been a second home to me, and I want to share that feeling with everyone who wears my garments.
My Inspiration.
I get inspired everywhere I go. Everything around us has been created, designed and built. It is all art and inspiration. Most of my inspiration comes from humans, because I think they are the most complicated, sophisticated and beautiful things ever created.
No matter how hard we’ll try to do some things, something will try to hold us back, or we’ll lie to ourselves, but tell others not to lie. Something in our brains is just so utterly unbelievable that we can completely change ourselves subconsciously.
Getting Started.
My journey into fashion started with my best friend. When we were in second or third grade, she and another friend had this crazy idea to start a fashion line called Clothes Galore. They asked my sister to be a part of it. After a month, I wanted to join, and that’s when everything changed. We were designing pages and clothes, and pulling a team together.
As the group initially fell away, my friend still loved fashion, and she invited us to a camp where we designed and sewed clothes. We held a fashion show where I learned how to sew, and I made a velvet, double-sided bomber jacket. I really loved it, and since then I have been going to the same place, creating and designing my own clothes.
The Unincorporated Life.
When I arrived at The Unincorporated Life, I had no idea what I was doing. I wore a hat for the first time, and found myself discovering into who I really am. An instructor named Jan at started educating me about different styles and pulling magazines so that we could get inspiration.
When I was learning about the process of getting an idea on paper, creating a sample, finding models, fitting, refitting, redesigning, and finally getting it on a runway, that’s when I fell in love with fashion.
The Inspiration Behind My Collection.
Everything I make I want to have a quote inside it or somewhere on it. When there are words of inspiration, and you wear it, I think it makes you feel that quote, and embody it. So if it is on the outside, other people can see it, and they can feel lifted up. They are reminded, and I think that helps spread kindness, love and acceptance. That’s the story of the quotes on the pieces.
Self Love was a new concept for me. A lot of people were saying that selfishness and self love are the same thing. I wanted to make sure that they are not, and showcase that self love is positive, and without self love, we cannot function as ourselves, and that is just as important as food, shelter or water. That was my inspiration for the collection.
